TOP 5 - Our favourite FREE things to do in Port Douglas

Port Douglas is jam packed with so many incredible activities and memorable day trips, by now chances are you’ve heard about the wonderful World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest. But did you know there are also a number of breathtaking things to do that are FREE too?

Here’s our TOP FIVE that we believe should be on your list not to miss!

⁣1. Watch the sunset 🌅 over the ocean from Rex Smeal Park.⁣

Yes, you read correctly, at this special little spot you can watch the sun set over the ocean with the lush green of the Daintree Rainforest in the background. All due to this park sitting on a point at the mouth of the Dickson Inlet, thank you Mother Nature! Here you’ll catch breathtaking sunsets that are hard to forget, as you sit surrounded by lush palm trees and the sparkling Coral Sea.

Pro tip: Take down a little picnic of drinks and snacks (cheese plate, burgers or fish and chips work a treat). This part will cost a little, but it’s a great cheap dinner option, with an amazing view!

⁣2. Enjoy sunrise at the famous Four Mile Beach. 🏖

This is definitely worth waking up early for. The golden sand under your feet, calm of the morning Coral Sea, surrounded by hardly anybody. Watch as the sun peeks over the water unveiling what kind of tropical day it will be, either way you know it’ll be a beauty.

If you can’t be tempted to an early rise, you can simply walk it at any time of the day and you’ll be taken by it’s tranquility. Pro tip: The earlier you go, the cooler it is! ⁣😉

3. Walk the scenic “Flagstaff Walking Trail.”

The Flagstaff Hill Walking Trail provides spectacular views out over the Coral Sea, Low Isles and all the way up to Snapper Island and the Daintree Rainforest. Access the walk via the stairs at the North end of Four Mile Beach, take in the 180-degree views from the cantilever viewing platform along the way and walk the 1.5km track around to Rex Smeal Park.

Pro tip: Find the hidden Low Isles Lighthouse viewing platform located on Wharf Street. Ask us when you arrive and we’ll tell you exactly where it is.

4. Visit the Port Douglas Markets on Sunday

Soak up the tropical Sunday Market 🥥 vibes between the palm trees and the Coral Sea. Okay, you will probably want some spending money here for fresh coconut treats to marvelously made treasures, but you don’t have to it’s beautiful just strolling around, enjoying the buzz and meeting the local stallholders.⁣

⁣5. Wildlife spotting around Freestyle. 🐸

There is so much to adore in our very own backyard, from the teeny tiny little Dwarf Sedge Frogs that laze on lily pads in our ponds, to the bright Ulysses Butterflies that flutter through our gardens to the sweet little Sunbirds that will capture your heart.⁣

Do you have any of your own favourites 😍 to add?⁣
